Yaz and Yasmin Blood Clots Talk With A Lawyer

Yaz and Yasmin are birth controls pills manufactured by Bayer Healthcare that are intended to prevent unwanted pregnancies. As two of the more popular oral contraceptives on the market, both Yaz and Yasmin contain a synthetic hormone known as drospirenone (or DRSP). Due to recent studies, it has come to light that drospirenone is responsible for many Yaz side effects, including heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. If you or a loved one has taken Yaz or Yasmin and has experienced any adverse side effects, contact one of our Yaz side effects lawyers or Yasmin injury attorneys as soon as possible as you may have legal recourse.

Yaz and Yasmin Side Effects

A recent Danish study found that women who took birth control pills containing DRSP were more likely to suffer life-threatening blood clots than women who were not exposed to DRSP. In a separate study involving 330,000 Israeli women, it was found that women who took Yaz were more likely to develop dangerous blood clots than women using non-drospirenone oral contraceptives.

The most common type of Yaz-induced blood clot is thromboembolism or deep venous thrombosis (DVT). These are characterized by the formation of a blood clot, usually in the leg, that breaks loose and is carried through the blood stream. DVT clots typically block blood flow and cause extreme pain and swelling. These types of clots will often plug vessels in the lungs, kidneys and the brain, causing a stroke.

DRSP is responsible for several other adverse side effects, including:

  • Heart Attack
  • Pulmonary Embolism
  • Gallbladder Diseases
  • Stroke
  • Hypertension
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Jaundice
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Sudden Death
