rust-spotIs the floorboard in your Nissan Altima corroding and rusting? Nissan is facing a class action lawsuit over rust-prone floorboards. The lawsuit alleges the carmaker knew about the defect, but hid it from consumers. Now, Nissan is reportedly refusing to cover the cost of repairs.

The floorboards, which were reportedly rust-prone cannot withstand the normal wear and tear of driving and exposure to the elements. According to CNBC, over 400 complaints have been filed with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) about 2002-2006 model year Nissan vehicles.

Consumer complaints are shocking:

Vehicles have rusted from the inside out, causing the floorboards to erode and peel away from the undercarriage of the vehicles.
Severe corrosion has reportedly left gaping holes as large as 20” right beneath the driver’s feet.
However, Nissan reportedly maintains this “issue” is not a safety concern and has yet to initiate a recall of the rusting floorboards or identify a safety hazard.

Even worse, for Nissan Altima owners who have been forced to replace floorboards on their own, Nissan does not guarantee they will not suffer the same deterioration defect.
