What USPS is Doing to Help Prevent Truck Accidents Talk With A Lawyer

Each year, The United States Postal Service (USPS) delivers over 160 billion pieces of mail. The organization utilizes a half million employees and 213,000 vehicles to provide service to their 935 billion customers. With a large number of vehicles on the road, it comes as no surprise that US postal trucks are involved in numerous accidents.

Hundreds of USPS truck accidents occur every year while they are trying to deliver the mail in a timely manner. The USPS was concerned about the sheer number of crashes each year and decided to take action. With the help of the U.S. Department of Transportation, USPS has established the Motor Vehicle Safety Program to promote driving safety and to reduce the number of postal vehicles involved in collisions.

If you or a loved one was injured in USPS truck accident at no-fault of your own, you may be eligible for legal and financial recourse. Contact a North Carolina truck accident attorney today to explore your legal options.

Motor Vehicle Safety Program

The U.S. Department of Transportation and the USPS are collaborating to create a safe driving environment in the areas where the postal service is present, through the Motor Vehicle Safety Program. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of vehicle crashes on a daily basis, promote driver safety. In addition, the Motor Vehicle Safety Program aims to make the mail distribution process run smoothly.

The purpose of the Accident Analysis portion of the program is to prevent USPS truck accident crashes. For example, if a USPS driver is involved in a crash, the Accident Analysis portion of the Program will help the driver’s supervisor determine how various aspects (i.e. the route, delivery) may have contributed to the accident. The analysis helps the organization put measures in place to decrease the likelihood of an accident from occurring.
