Although investigators have more work to do in this case, survivors of those killed due to negligent conduct do have recourse in the state’s civil court system. It is often possible to pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and burial expenses. When injuries occur due to negligent conduct, it is possible for victims to seek compensation for medical expenses, pain-and-suffering and possible lost wages.
