Large Tour Bus Driving On The Interstate Stock Photo

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a bus carrying 49 passengers blew a right front tire and ran off of Interstate 85 in Davidson County on Tuesday, August 25.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 98, just north of Highway 64. The bus was originally scheduled to travel from Atlanta to New York City.

Bus Strikes Trees, Remains Upright

A preliminary investigation suggests that the tire blew when it hit a piece of metal laying in the roadway. The bus went off the road, down an embankment and into a grove of trees. However, the bus remained upright in the wreck, according to WXII News.

Some Passengers Injured

Although Fox 8 News reported multiple injuries, none were life-threatening. Passengers on the bus told a Fox 8 reporter how glass shattered as the bus hit the groves of trees. Authorities closed two of the interstate’s three northbound lanes after the crash. As of 10:46 p.m., only one lane was still closed, according to state transportation officials.

Although this accident is the subject of an ongoing investigation, state law does allow injured victims to seek compensation in certain commercial vehicle accidents when negligence is a factor. Sometimes, a party responsible for road debris incurs liability. Injured victims often seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages.
